Worcester, Mass. – The Worcester Area Collegiate Basketball Association (WACBA) released their 2017 All-WACBA Teams on Wednesday. Individuals from both the Anna Maria College men's and women's basketball teams were represented for their outstanding accomplishments in the 2016-2017 season.
Freshman forward Mike Rapoza (Charlton, Mass.) of the Anna Maria College men's basketball team was named to the All-WACBA First Team while senior Deja Taitt (Cambia Heights, N.Y.) of the women's basketball team was named to the All-WACBA Second Team.
Rapoza was a five-time GNAC Rookie of the Week. He finished the season averaging a team high 17.1 points and 12.7 rebounds per game making himself known as a double-double machine throughout the league. He recorded double-doubles in 20 out of 26 games this season while notching a career high 24 points in the AMCATS win over Mount Ida in December.
Taitt was a great contributor to the Anna Maria women's basketball offensive and defensive play. She averaged 11.1 points per game, 5.4 rebounds per game and 4.7 assists per game. Taitt recorded an impressive 112 assists this season putting her atop all Worcester Area women's basketball players. Her 112 assists this season helped Taitt surpass the Anna Maria College all-time career assists record with 372. The previous top record was set in 1991 as Katie Stochaj recorded a career 362 assists.
The awards are voted on by athletics media communications representatives of each of the nine WACBA institutions, as well as three members of the local media.
