Worcester, Mass. – The Worcester Area Football Association has name Anna Maria College's Santino Simone (Worcester, Mass.), Domenique Concepcion (Middlebury, Conn.), Nii Quartey (Worcester, Mass.) and Jordan Koehler (West Warwick, RI) to the 21st Annual Steve "Merc" Morris All-Star Teams as selected by the regions sports information directors.
Wide receiver Concepcion was selected 1st team all-star. The senior led the AMC receiving core with 782 yards and 8 touchdowns. He helped AMC to their first victory vs. Becker with 111 receiving yards. Concepcion was selected to the team for the third straight year (2009 – 2nd Team, 2010 – 1st Team).
Nii Quartey jumped to a first team defensive end selection after a second team selection last season. Quartey had a strong 2011 season, registering 49 total tackles (33 solo), 3 quarterback sacks and 2 forced fumbles.
Sophomore linebacker Jordan Kohler, also a 2nd team selection last year, was named to the first team. Kohler led all AMCATS with 82 tackles (50 solo). He recorded 4 games with double digit tackles.
Quarterback Simone was named to the all-star second team; he led the AMCATS to their first program win in 2011. The junior threw for career highs 1972 yards and 21 touchdowns. Also a force on the ground he ran for 513 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The Worcester Area Football Association All-Star Team has been named in memory of Steve "Merc" Morris, the longtime Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations at Assumption College. "Merc" was a 1972 graduate of Assumption and was a member of the athletics staff for 39 years before passing away in January 2011. In addition to being the founder of the Worcester Area Football Association All-Star program, he was a tireless supporter of collegiate athletics in the Worcester area and had a key role in the lives of thousands of student-athletes.
