WINTHROP, Mass.—Freshman goaltender Paul Schwarz (Staten Island, N.Y.) of the Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Corvias Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Schwarz earned his first collegiate victory in between the pipes last week, tallying 16 saves, including two in the final minute, in Anna Maria's 10-9 win over Lyndon State. He followed that up with 22 saves against Mass. Maritime on Saturday. In total, Schwarz made 38 saves for a .655 save percentage.
The freshman netminder has made an immediate impact on the field for Anna Maria this season. In just five games, Schwarz has already surpassed 100 saves with 106. He stops 63.5 percent of shots faced and allows 12.20 goals per game.
The AMCATS (1-4) are in action twice this week, hosting Western Connecticut State on Tuesday and Houghton on Thursday. Both games begin at 5:00 p.m.
