SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—The Anna Maria College cross country teams opened the 2014 season in a mixed five-kilometer race at Western New England University on Saturday afternoon.
On the men's side, freshman Patrick Clarke (Pomfret, Conn.) finished the 5k in third place with a time of 18:27.00, just five seconds behind the race winner, freshman Jon Ricciardi of WNE. Ricciardi's teammate, sophomore Ed Kaczenski, finished one second behind the winner.
On the women's side, the AMCATS took three of the top five slots, but fell short to Western New England as the Bears recorded 25 points and the AMCATS had 34. Sophomore Maureen Moore (Newbury, Mass.) recorded a second-place finish with a time of 22:09, while Ashley Bricault (Cumberland, R.I.) and Ashley Eccleston (Plymouth, Mass.) finished in fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 23:04 and 23:32.
The AMCATS return to action on Saturday, September 6, when both teams compete at the Smith College Co-Ed Invitational.
