CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Pine Manor senior Tara Doehler (Lakeville, MA) pitched 14 shutout innings to lead Pine Manor to a sweep of visiting Anna Maria College during a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader on Saturday, April 14, 2012 in Chestnut Hill, MA. With the pair of wins, Pine Manor improves to 7-13 overall and in the conference.
In game one, the Gators took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as Provost singled to score Doehler. That was all that Doehler would need as she was perfect the first time through the Anna Maria order, before surrendering a single to Anna Maria junior Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, ME) to open the fourth inning. However, PMC catcher Kayla Provost (Saco, ME) would gun down Ruggeri as she attempted to steal second before Doehler retired the next two batters of the inning. The single would be the only blemish for Doehler in game one as she faced the minimum 21 batters in the game, surrendering one hit and striking out four for her fourth victory of the season.
PMC would add another run in the fourth inning when sophomore Ashley Carusone hit a solo home run to lead-off the fourth inning as Pine Manor took a 2-0 victory in game one.
In game two, Doehler continued to cruise, this time surrendering four hits and one walk, while striking out five over seven shutout innings. Pine Manor supplied more run support in game two, once again taking an early lead in the first, this time 2-0, on a two-RBI single by Provost.
The Gators added three runs on two hits and an Anna Maria error in the fourth, with Carusone driving in two more runs before Provost doubled to drive in her fourth run of the day. PMC added two more runs in the fifth inning as two runs scored on an Anna Maria error to make the score 7-0. Anna Maria would go down in order in the sixth inning, before stranding a runner in the seventh to fall 7-0 in game two.
