PAXTON, Mass – The AMCATS women's basketball team played at home Tuesday they closed out their pre-Thanksgiving schedule in non-conference action against Worcester rival Clark University. Anna Maria fell to their NEWMAC opponent 65-48 in the Fuller Center.
Freshman guard Marissa Amidio (Oakham, Mass) led the scoring for the AMCATS off the bench as she scored 12 going four-for-six from beyond the three-point arch in 12 minutes. Sophomore forward Hailey Moore (Worcester, Mass) cleaned up the boards all night for the AMCATS pulling down nine rebounds. Moore added six points to the tally and accumulated five assists. Senior guard Kristina Russo (South Windsor, Conn) and senior center Shannon Hoffmiller (Oxford, Conn) each scored eight in the loss for the 'Cats.
For Clark, junior center Ogechi Ezemma (Hope Valley, R.I.) led all scorers with 19 points adding eight boards. Senior forward Haley Wilder (Rindge, N.H.) found 13 points of her own and freshman guard Idalis Miranda (Naugatuck, Conn) also scored double digit points with 11 adding six assists for the Cougars.
Clark got out to a 10-point lead after the first quarter leading 22-12 and capped off the half by outscoring the AMCATS 12-7 in the second quarter to go in to the break 34-19. In the second half, Anna Maria threatened right from the whistle and were able to grab back three points as they headed to the fourth at 45-33 Cougars. In the fourth, Amidio shined for the AMCATS as head coach Kevin Bigelow's game plan shifted to get the ball in to Marissa's hands to let her shoot from outside. While she was successful knocking down four three-pointers it wasn't enough as Clark left Fuller with the 65-48 victory to improve to 3-1 on the year. Anna Maria falls to 0-3 as they head in to the Thanksgiving break.
The AMCATS will be back in action on Monday, November 27th at home in the Fuller Center to take on Nichols College at 6pm.
