- The Lead: The Massachusetts Maritime Academy women's soccer team blanked Anna Maria College Tuesday evening, 7-0. Junior Madison Taylor (Longmeadow, Mass.) paced the Buccaneers with four goals, while senior Stephanie Hunt chipped in with a pair.
How It Happened:
-The game was played in a thick fog all evening, making it difficult for players and officials to see.
-Taylor put the visitors on the board in the 10th minute of play with her first goal of the evening.
-The AMCATS played tough over the next 30 minutes, allowing just one goal by Hunt in the 33rd minute.
-Mass. Maritime got one more goal before the intermission, as sophomore Kristen Shanley (Marshfield, Mass.) connected with an assist from classmate Cammi Balentine (Haverhill, Mass.)
-The Buccaneers pushed the margin to 4-0 in the first minute of the second half as Hunt tallied her second goal of the evening.
-Taylor rounded out the scoring with the final three goals for the visitors. She scored a pair in less than a minute in the 54th and 55th minutes to convert the hat trick, and tacked on her final tally 10 minutes later.
-The AMCATS managed four shots toward the opposing goal, including two by sophomore Shannon Leblanc (Lancaster, Mass.)
Inside the Numbers:
-Mass. Maritime finished with a 24-4 advantage in shots
-Sophomore Sara Coffey (Norton, Mass.) earned the win in the MMA goal without making a save, improving her record to 2-3.
-Sophomore Gabriella Eldredge (West Boylston, Mass.) had a busy night in the AMCAT goal and finished with nine saves.
-Corner kicks were even at 5-apiece.
The AMCATS return to action on Thursday, Sept. 21, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up at Lasell College (4:00 p.m.) Massachusetts Maritime resume Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play on Saturday at Salem State University (3:00 p.m.)
