Football Flies Past Owls in Third Straight MASCAC Victory

WESTFIELD, MA – Anna Maria College football improved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference with a convincing 41-14 road victory over Westfield State on Saturday afternoon.

Quarterback Nikolay Boyce led the charge for the AMCATS, completing 18 passes for 297 yards and five touchdowns, including a long pass of 67 yards. Jeremiah Cadet was the team's leading rusher, carrying the ball nine times for 61 yards with a long run of 17. Cadet also made the highlight reel through the air with a 67-yard touchdown reception, part of an explosive offensive performance that saw Anna Maria pile up 396 total yards of offense.

Boyce spread the ball around effectively, connecting with Tyler Garretson six times for 64 yards and two touchdowns, Max Gasinowski five times for 62 yards and a score, and Ka'Marion Thomas four times for 61 yards and a touchdown. Anthony Phillipo rounded out the receiving effort with two receptions for 43 yards.

After the Owls opened scoring with a rushing touchdown on their first possession, the AMCATS responded with a six-play, 58-yard drive culminating in a 13-yard touchdown pass from Boyce to Garretson to even the game at 7-7.

Anna Maria erupted for four touchdowns and 28 unanswered points in the second quarter, highlighted by Cadet's 67-yard touchdown reception, a 38-yard score to Thomas, and a 30-yard connection to Gasinowski. Mar-Zhon Brinson added to the onslaught with a 22-yard interception return for a touchdown, sending the AMCATS into halftime with a commanding 35-7 advantage.

Westfield State briefly cut into the lead with a 54-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, but Anna Maria sealed the victory in the fourth when Boyce and Garretson linked up again, this time from three yards out, to cap off a nine-play, 64-yard scoring drive and secure the game's final score of 41-14.

The AMCATS defense stifled the Owls' passing game, forcing a staggering five interceptions to completely lock down the Westfield offense. Brinson paved the way with two picks for 62 yards and a touchdown, while Jihad Brown, Lance Thomas, and Damien Ocampo each added one of their own. Charles DeMartino paced the team with seven total tackles, while Jaiquan Torrence followed closely with six.

After enjoying a week off, Anna Maria will look to extend its three-game MASCAC winning streak to four when the AMCATS travel to Plymouth State on Saturday, October 18th. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
