AMCATS BATTLE THROUGH TWO TOUGH LOSSES

The Anna Maria Softball team drops two game on the day. In the First game the lost to the Highlandsers 4-1, and the Second game to the Fightin' Engineers 7-0

Game 1

The Anna Maria softball opened the third day of play at the Space Coast Spring Games against the Highlanders of Houghton University. The AMCATS fell to the Highlanders, 4-1.

Anna Maria opened the game at the plate as Ella Moon singled to center field before stealing both second and third to move into scoring position. However, the AMCATS were unable to bring Moon home and remained scoreless after the top of the first inning. Houghton struck first in the bottom half of the inning, taking a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the third, Paige Stewart reached base with a single to left field and advanced into scoring position with a steal of second. Angela-Marie Gilmartin followed with a single to left field, moving Stewart to third. Madison Levesque then drove in Stewart with a single to center field to get the AMCATS on the board. The Highlanders responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead to 3-1.

Houghton added the final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Anna Maria ultimately fell to the Highlanders, 4-1, in the first game of the day.

 

Game 2

The Anna Maria College softball team dropped the second game of their double header matchup to Rose-Hulman on Wednesday afternoon, falling 7-0.

Rose-Hulman opened the scoring early, plating a run in the first inning before adding another in the second to take an early 2-0 advantage. The Fightin' Engineers continued to build momentum in the middle innings, scoring twice in the third and adding single runs in the fourth and fifth before tacking on one more in the seventh to secure the 7-0 result.

The AMCATS battled throughout the contest and managed a pair of hits on the afternoon. Ella Moon led the AMCATS at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a walk, while Mae McGowan also recorded a hit for the hosts.

In the circle, Makenna Lovelette started the game for Anna Maria, pitching four innings while allowing five hits and four runs with one walk. Mackenzie Evers came on in relief and tossed three innings, surrendering five hits and three runs while striking out one.

The AMCATS continued to compete defensively and looked to generate offense late in the game, putting runners aboard but unable to push a run across.

 

WHAT'S NEXT
The AMCATS return to action on for the last day of their Spring Break tournament on Friday, March 6th, 2026, with matchups against Dubuque University in game one and John Carroll University in game two. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 4:45PM.
