Softball Splits MASCAC Doubleheader at Fitchburg State

FITCHBURG, Mass. - Anna Maria College split a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader against Fitchburg State University on Monday afternoon at Donna Lee Withington Field.

With the results, the AMCATS move to 14-20 overall and 3-11 in conference play.

GAME ONE: Anna Maria 6, Fitchburg State 0

Anna Maria struck first in the opening inning, as Meaghan Doyle singled through the left side to bring home Ella Moon for a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Angela Marie Gilmartin delivered the key hit, doubling to right field and driving in three runs to extend the advantage to 4-0.

The AMCATS added insurance in the sixth inning, beginning with a sacrifice fly from Paige Stewart that scored Emelia Carvalho. Mae McGowan followed with an RBI single to plate Moon and cap the scoring at 6-0.

Makenna Lovelette picked up her eighth win of the season, striking out three in a complete-game shutout.

GAME TWO: Fitchburg State 6, Anna Maria 3

After Fitchburg State took an early lead, the AMCATS got on the board in the top of the third when McGowan singled to center field.

Anna Maria continued to chip away with runs in back-to-back innings, as Doyle hit an RBI single to left field in the fifth before Carvalho added an RBI single up the middle in the sixth.

Mackenzie Evers went the distance in the circle, striking out six while allowing just one earned run.
