WORCESTER, Mass. - Anna Maria College was defeated 78–67 by Worcester State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the AMCATS fall to 5–10 overall and 1–4 in conference play.
Anna Maria came out strong, taking a 22–20 lead after the first quarter behind eight points apiece from Hannah Baxter and Tiffany Salazar. Salazar knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the opening frame, while Meaghan Doyle added six points, connecting on two shots from beyond the arc.
Worcester State responded in the second quarter, edging ahead 35–32 at halftime and maintaining control throughout the remainder of the contest.
Salazar led the AMCATS with 17 points and five assists, while Baxter finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double. Doyle contributed eight points, shooting 2-for-4 from three-point range.
Anna Maria returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 28, hosting Framingham State University in a MASCAC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
