Edwards Coaches for USA Football

Paxton, Mass. – Anna Maria College's second year defensive backs coach Edwyn Edwards recently spent time coaching over two hundred of the best high school football players across the country. He was selected to assist USA Football, which held a weeklong development camp at UMass-Dartmouth.

The camp, according to USA Football, was where athletes competed for spots on the Under-16 and Under-17 U.S. National Team rosters for when Team USA plays in the International Bowl in February 2014.

Working at the Team USA Football Camp was one of the greatest experiences of my life, I knew I loved coaching, but this just solidified it even more." said Edwards, "Having the opportunity to work with coaches and players from all over the country was truly a rewarding experience. It didn't matter whether the kid was a top prospect or a second team player; everyone's attitude was to get better. The Team USA motto for the week was "Get Better". "

The camp also included off-field training sessions as well as practice, jamborees and 7-v-7 competitions. "We stressed getting better as people, students, and football players." discussed Edwards, " We had different sessions where we reviewed important topics such as recruiting, social media, and how to be a leader on and off the field. They had the opportunity to listen to this message from coaches from high school, college, and some former NFL players as well. The camp was great for all parties involved because as the kids got better, we as coaches got better as well."
Edwards hopes to translate what he learned over the course of the week to the upcoming AMCAT season. "This was an experience I will remember for the rest of my life, I am very thankful for the opportunity and I look forward to sharing the many lessons I learned not only for this upcoming season, but for the rest of my coaching career."
Anna Maria opens camp in mid-August, the 2013 campaign kicks off on Saturday, September 1st at 1:00pm when they host Worcester State University.
