Football Picks Up First Win Over Mass Maritime In OT
BUZZARDS BAY, MA - On Saturday, September 20th the Anna Maria College football team traveled to Buzzards Bay, MA to take on the Buccaneers of Mass Maritime Academy. The AMCATS won the game 33-27 in overtime.
The Buccaneers took the early lead in the first quarter, scoring first to put the Buccaneers up against the AMCATS 7-0. Despite the AMCATS getting opportunities and chances to tie the Buccaneers, the AMCATS would fall short in the first quarter as the quarter would come to an end with the Buccaneers ahead of the AMCATS 7-0.
With both teams exchanging opportunities it would be a contested back and forth second quarter, the AMCATS would find themselves on the board when Nikolay Boyce would throw to Max Gasinowski for the touchdown against the Buccaneers just about five minutes into the quarter to put 6 points up on the board and the extra point off the kick from Marino Vedova would tie the game at 7-7. Although the Buccaneers would continue the offensive pressure it would be the AMCATS defense to limit the offensive pressure from the Buccaneers. Despite the back-and-forth action and the AMCATS defensive pressure, the Buccaneers would manage to score a touchdown in the last minute of the second quarter but ultimately would miss the extra point on the kick to put the Buccaneers ahead of the AMCATS by 6 before heading to halftime with the Buccaneers leading 13 to 7.
Trailing 13-7 at the start of the second half, it would be all AMCATS in the third quarter as they would put up two straight touchdowns and limit the Buccaneers to no scoring opportunities. The AMCATS two touch downs would come from Jeremiah Cadet and Ka'Marion Thomas to complete the third quarter comeback to take the lead over the Buccaneers 20-13.
With the AMCATS in the lead looking to close out the comeback victory heading into the fourth quarter however it would not look like that as the Buccaneers would come out strong in the fourth quarter scoring a touchdown to put themselves down by 1 point against the AMCATS with the score being 20-19, as they would ultimately miss the extra point. It would be AMCATS to look to come back against the Buccaneers in the fourth and the AMCATS would do just that as they would go right down the field and take the lead over the Buccaneers 27-19 off a touchdown from Treshawn Blair with about 8:00 minutes left to play. It would be back-and-forth action throughout the entire fourth quarter as the Buccaneers would come right back down the field and put up a touchdown and a two-point conversion to tie the AMCATS at 27-27, as the Buccaneers two-point conversion would be successful . The tie score of 27-27 would force overtime between the AMCATS and the Buccaneers.
The AMCATS would score a touchdown during their overtime drive and pull ahead of the Buccaneers off a two-yard rush from Treshawn Blair to put the AMCATS ahead of the Buccaneers 33 to 27. It would be the AMCATS to put up stellar defense in overtime to keep the Buccaneers off the scoreboard and complete the comeback win over the Buccaneers with a score of 33 to 27.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Nikolay Boyce threw for 253 yards with three touchdowns on the day.
• Treshawn Blair led the AMCATS rushing with 41 yards and 2 touchdowns.
• Max Gasinowski would have 100 yards receiving with one touchdown on the day for the AMCATS.
