Niko Boyce Headlines Football All-Conference Awards
PAXTON, MA - Several Anna Maria College football players earned postseason recognition from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, including freshman phenom Nikolay Boyce, who earned both Rookie and Offensive Player of the Year, as announced by the league office on Thursday, November 20th.
Boyce was the top quarterback in the conference, leading the AMCATS to a regular-season title in their first season in the MASCAC, throwing for a school-record 32 touchdowns, with 15 being the next most in the conference. He totaled a monumental 2,605 passing yards in 10 games, averaging 260.5 yards per game, with the next closest quarterback throwing for only 1,618 yards. Boyce completed a total of 189 passes at 8.0 yards per attempt with a completion percentage of 58.2 and an efficiency rating of 150.0. He also added 243 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 76 attempts. Boyce earned MASCAC weekly awards for seven consecutive weeks and was named First-Team All-Conference at the quarterback position.
One of Boyce's top receivers, senior Tyler Garretson, was named Second-Team All-Conference at the tight end position, finishing the season with 27 receptions for 337 yards, including a long touchdown of 71 yards, and six total touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore defensive back Jihad Brown earned First-Team All-Conference after posting 34 total tackles, 27 solo, along with five tackles for loss, one forced fumble, an interception, and six pass breakups during Anna Maria's impressive 7-2 record in their first season in the conference.
Freshman punter Jacob Martin was selected to the Second-Team All-Conference on special teams. Martin recorded 14 punts for 559 total yards, averaging 39.9 yards per punt with a long of 60. He placed eight punts inside the 20-yard line, consistently placing the AMCATS in favorable field position.
