PAXTON, MA - Anna Maria College was defeated 1-0 by New England College in a non-conference collegiate women's soccer game Friday afternoon at Caparso Field
The opening half was defined by strong defensive play from both sides, with the AMCATS holding a slight edge in shots, by a margin of four to three. Three of Anna Maria's attempts were on target, with Ellie Dube leading the charge, registering one shot on goal while consistently pressuring the New England defense.
The AMCATS carried that momentum into the second half, again outshooting the visitors early in the period. Just five minutes in, Olivia Vale de Serra nearly broke the deadlock, striking the crossbar on a free kick from 25 yards out. In the 64th minute, Pilgrims midfielder Amanda Roy scored the tiebreaker when her shot deflected off an AMCATS defender's leg and slipped into the net for the game's only goal.
Kortney Clark played the entire game in net for Anna Maria, making two saves in the loss.
The AMCATS return to action on Sunday, August 31st, in a road, non-conference matchup against Mount Holyoke, scheduled for 12:30 PM
