BUZZARDS BAY, MA – The AMCATS picked up their first MASCAC win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Massachusetts Maritime on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.
With the win, Anna Maria improves to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in MASCAC play.
After a scoreless first half, Anna Maria controlled the pace of play in the second, outshooting the Buccaneers 14-6. The breakthrough came late in the game, in the 85th minute, when Jillian Caruso buried the game-winner unassisted to put the AMCATS on top for good.
Anna Maria finished with a 19-7 advantage in total shots, including nine on goal. Caruso led the offense with two shots on target, while Ellie Dube, Macy Hutchinson, and Kayla Brown each added multiple chances of their own.
Goalkeeper Kortney Clark held strong in net, recording four saves through the first 80 minutes before Brooke Austin came on to close out the match, making one save in the final stretch to preserve the shutout.
