SALEM, MA - Anna Maria was defeated 2-0 by Salem State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game, Saturday afternoon at O'Keefe Sports Complex.
With the loss, the AMCATS fall to an overall record of 0-6 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
Salem State struck first in the 19th minute when Jenna Mitza broke through with an unassisted goal to put the hosts on top, 1-0. The Vikings doubled their lead midway through the second half as Krysta Zamejtis converted in the 59th minute to make it 2-0.
Anna Maria generated five shots on target, led by Kayla Brown, Sydney Cohen, Olivia Vale da Serra, Brooke Austin, and Anetta Del Prado, but were unable to break through against Salem's keeper, who posted five saves in the shutout.
In goal, Kortney Clark was strong for the AMCATS, finishing with eight saves on ten shots faced to keep the match within reach.
Anna Maria returns home on Wednesday, September 17th, for a non-conference matchup against Albertus Magnus, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
