Women’s Soccer Drops Heartbreaker Against Simmons

PAXTON, MA - Anna Maria was defeated 3-2 by Simmons University in a non-conference women's collegiate soccer game on Wednesday evening at Caparso Field.

With the loss, the AMCATS fall to an overall record of 0-5 on the season while remaining 0-1 in conference play.

Trailing 2-0 early in the second half, Megan Swan took a corner kick and passed the ball to Olivia Vale da Serra, who shot a header from outside the goalie box, soaring over the keeper's head and into the net to cut the Simmons' lead to 2-1 in the 49th minute of play.

With just over four minutes left in regulation, Macy Hutchinson scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Jillian Caruso to tie the game at two goals apiece. Unfortunately for the AMCATS, a foul in the goalie box with just 16 seconds remaining set the Sharks up with a penalty kick that resulted in the game-winning goal for the visitors.

Kortney Clark played the majority of the game in net for Anna Maria, making five saves in the loss. Brooke Austin was in goal for 10 minutes, making one save.

Anna Maria returns to MASCAC action with a road matchup against Salem State beginning at noon.
