Men’s Lacrosse Battles with Purchase
PAXTON, Mass. - Anna Maria College was defeated in a close contest against Purchase College, falling 7-6 to the Panthers in a non-conference men's lacrosse game on Wednesday evening at Caparso Field.
With the loss, the AMCATS drop to 1-7 overall before entering conference play.
Anna Maria struck first, capitalizing on a man-up opportunity five minutes into the game as Miles Cormier gave the AMCATS a 1-0 lead off an assist from Kyle Pickering. Purchase responded with three consecutive goals to take control.
Cormier brought the AMCATS back into the game with his second goal, assisted by Nicholas Hussa, before Hussa followed with an unassisted goal two minutes later to tie the game at 3-3. Purchase added a late goal to take a 4-3 lead into halftime.
Pickering evened the score midway through the third quarter, but the Panthers answered as time expired in the period to regain the lead. Purchase then extended its advantage to 6-4 early in the fourth.
The AMCATS continued to battle, as Eric Farrell connected with Pickering for a goal, cutting the deficit to one. After Purchase made it 7-5 with 8:54 remaining, Anna Maria answered just over a minute later to pull within one again, but the Panthers' defense held the rest of the way to secure the 7-6 victory.
Tyler Davidson played the full game in net for Anna Maria, recording 16 saves.
Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday, March 21, with a road matchup against Husson at 1 p.m.
