Men’s Soccer Drops Conference Opener to Bears

BRIDGEWATER, MA - Anna Maria College was defeated 6-0 by Bridgewater State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at Mazzaferro Field.

With the loss, the AMCATS' overall record slips to 1-2, and they open up 0-1 in conference play.

The first half was deadlocked at 0-0 for the first 18 minutes of play before Bridgewater's Nicholas Ribeiro broke the tie to score the only goal of the half. The AMCATS hung around for the entire first half, taking four shots compared to the Bears' seven.

The game got away from Anna Maria as Bridgewater put up five goals in the second half on 17 total shots. Freshman goalkeeper Federico Foganio gave an exceptional effort to minimize the damage, making five saves throughout the game. Unfortunately, the AMCATS offense couldn't answer, knocking Federico's record as the starting keeper down to 1-1.

Thomas Terry and Nils Cofalka each took a pair of shots throughout the contest, with Cofalka landing one on target, forcing the Bears' goalkeeper to make a save.

Anna Maria returns to action on Tuesday, September 9th, to take on the Division I Holy Cross Crusaders in a road game beginning at 6:00 p.m.
