Men’s Soccer Drops Close One at Westfield

WESTFIELD, MA - The Anna Maria College men's soccer team was edged by Westfield State University, 2-1, in a tightly contested Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

With the loss, the AMCATS fall to 3-10-2 overall and 2-3-2 in MASCAC play.

Anna Maria struck first in the 20th minute after earning a penalty kick. Sophomore Kyle Brocker stepped up and buried his shot into the lower left corner to give the AMCATS a 1-0 lead and score his ninth goal of the season. The score held through halftime until Westfield State answered with a pair of second-half goals to take control of the game and secure the victory.

The AMCATS registered 16 total shots compared to 22 from the Owls. Freshman Federico Foganio played the full 90 minutes in goal, making nine saves to keep the match within reach.

Anna Maria wraps up regular-season play on the road against Worcester State University on Saturday, November 1st, with kickoff set for 10 a.m.
