PAXTON, MA - Anna Maria men's soccer dominated from start to finish in a 6-0 MASCAC victory over MCLA Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Caparso Field. The six-goal margin marks the AMCATS' largest win since a 6-0 triumph over Becker in October 2015.
With the win, the AMCATS improve to an overall record of 3-6-1 and 2-1-1 in conference competition.
Anna Maria's offense wasted no time, striking early to take a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the match when Sam Christian connected with Ariel García for the opening goal. Pablo Mata Busquets doubled the advantage eight minutes later, burying a rebound off a Kyle Brocker penalty kick to send the AMCATS into halftime with a 2-0 lead. The hosts controlled the pace throughout the first half, outshooting the Trailblazers 11-4, including a 7-0 margin in shots on goal.
Christian wasn't done setting up his teammates, connecting with Brocker nine minutes into the second half for a 3-0 lead. Mata Busquets followed with his second goal of the game off a feed from Flobatir Abdou to extend the advantage to 4-0. Brocker then added insult to injury, capitalizing on a goalkeeper miscue for his second tally of the day. The AMCATS capped off Senior Day in style as Naje Wray found fellow senior David Ayoola for the team's sixth and final goal of the match. The final shot tally favored the AMCATS by a margin of 23-6 with 13 total shots on goal for the home team.
Romain Baert played the majority of the match in goal before Federico Foganio took over late in the contest. The duo combined for two saves on the day, with each recording one to maintain the shutout.
Anna Maria takes the fight to the No. 12-ranked Brandeis in an away match on October 7th, beginning at 7 p.m.
