Men’s Soccer Clinches Fifth Seed With Shutout Win over Worcester
WORCESTER, MA - On Saturday morning, the Anna Maria College men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Worcester State University in MASCAC play at Coughlin Field.
With the win, the AMCATS close out the regular season at 4–10–2 overall and 3–3–2 in MASCAC play, clinching the fifth seed and earning a road matchup at Salem State in the MASCAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
Anna Maria came out with strong energy, pressing high and creating chances early. The breakthrough came in the 20th minute, when Ciaran Coneely Bailey found the back of the net off an assist from Hugo Drougard, putting the AMCATS up 1–0. From that moment, Anna Maria managed the game effectively, maintaining structure and focus through the remaining seventy minutes.
Defensively, the AMCATS were exceptional. Goalkeeper Federico Foganio recorded 10 saves in a full 90-minute shutout performance, marking his first win of the season and keeping Worcester State off the scoreboard despite 18 total shots. The backline, led by Ben Chikwanha and Baptiste Petitjean, remained disciplined under pressure, denying several dangerous opportunities in the second half.
Offensively, Anna Maria registered 13 total shots, with seven on target. Coneely Bailey led the team with four shots on goal, while Isidore Papillon and Jayden Zarco De-La-Cruz added key attempts that kept the pressure on the home side's defense throughout the match.
