Men’s Soccer Draws With Salem in High-Scoring MASCAC Showdown

PAXTON, MA - Anna Maria played Salem State University to a 4-4 draw in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer game Saturday evening at Caparso Field.

With the draw, the AMCATS shift to an overall record of 1-3-1 and 0-1-1 in conference play.

Sam Christian opened scoring in the 16th minute, finishing off a setup from Kyle Brocker to give Anna Maria an early 1-0 lead.

After Salem pulled even at 1-1, Nils Cofalka responded just three minutes later with his first of three goals in the 28th minute, assisted by Christian. Cofalka struck again midway through the second half, this time off a feed from Isidore Papillon, to put the AMCATS back in front, 3-2.

The Vikings regained the lead with only 90 seconds left in regulation, but the AMCATS answered in dramatic fashion. Off a corner from Papillon, Cofalka buried the equalizer with just 27 seconds remaining to complete his hat trick and secure a 4-4 draw.

In goal, Romain Baert went the distance for Anna Maria, recording six saves to keep Salem from pulling away.

Anna Maria returns to action for a home matchup against the number one Division III team during the 2024 season, Amherst College, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
