PAXTON, MA - Lily Celata scored a career-high five goals to lead Anna Maria College to an 8-1 victory over Elms College in a non-conference collegiate women's field hockey game Tuesday evening at Caparso Field. The 8-1 win marks the AMCATS' largest margin of victory since a 14-0 victory over Albertus Magnus in 2021, improving the team's overall record to 1-2 on the season.
Anna Maria jumped ahead to an early lead, scoring three times in the opening period, starting with a goal by Celata just two minutes into play. Madison Marie Romano scored again 10 minutes later, and Morgan Beane scored her first goal of the season with two minutes remaining to make the score 3-0.
The AMCATS continued to dominate the game in the second quarter, with Romano finding Celata for her second goal less than one minute into the period. After Elms finally got on the board, Celata answered by scoring her third and fourth goals to give the home team a 6-1 advantage heading into the half.
Celata remained unstoppable in the second half, scoring a career-high fifth goal to add on to the AMCATS' lead. Beane joined Celata as a multiple goal scorer with her second goal to give the game its final score of 8-1.
Celata finished the game with five goals and one assist for an impressive 11 points on the night. Beane finished with two goals, while Romano had one goal and one assist. Kennedy Etheridge and Emma Blake each finished with an assist.
Julianna Stanger played the entire game in net for the AMCATS, making one save to keep the Blazers' offense at bay. Anna Maria dominated offensively, outshooting the visitors by a margin of 33-8 with 23 shots on goal compared to three for Elms. The AMCATS also outpaced on corners with nine compared to eight for the Blazers.
