PAXTON, MA - Anna Maria was defeated 3-0 by Fitchburg State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference field hockey game on Tuesday evening at Caparso Field.
With the result, the AMCATS fall to an overall record of 1-8, while dropping to 0-4 in conference.
After letting up an early goal, the home team hung tough for the remainder of the first half, keeping the score at 1-0 with a chance to score in the final seconds when Madison Marie Romano fired a shot on goal, forcing the Falcons' goalkeeper to make a save to keep the AMCATS off the scoreboard.
Fitchburg added on to its lead in the second half, scoring a pair of goals to give the visitors some breathing room and put the game out of reach for Anna Maria.
Julianna Stanger was the AMCATS goalkeeper for all 60 minutes, making eight saves to keep her squad in the game.
Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday, October 4th, for a road match against Worcester State University beginning at 10 a.m.
