Field Hockey Comes Up Short Against Salem State

SALEM, MA – Anna Maria fell to Salem State, 6-3, in its Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opener on Tuesday afternoon at O'Keefe Sports Complex.

With the result, the AMCATS move to 1-4 overall and open 0-1 in conference play.

Both offenses got started quickly, with each team scoring within the first three minutes of the opening whistle. The Vikings struck first, but Morgan Beane answered just 2:07 into the contest to even the game at 1-1.

From there, four straight goals from Salem put the AMCATS at a 5-1 disadvantage. Anna Maria tried to stage a comeback but ultimately ran out of time, with Jade Brousseau scoring midway through the fourth and Alyse Mutti adding a third goal with two minutes remaining to give the game its final score of 6-3.

Julianna Stanger played the entire game in net for the AMCATS, making 10 saves to keep the game within striking distance.

Anna Maria will look to bounce back on Saturday, September 20, hosting Manhattanville for a noon start time.
