Volleyball Drops Nail Biter To Falcons

NEW HAVEN, CT- On September 18th, 2025, the Anna Maria College women's volleyball traveled to New Haven, CT to take on the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS lost the match 3 sets to 1.

The first set of the evening would be a back-and-forth set as the AMCATS stayed on the Falcons heels all the way through. Keeping the score tight right to the end, the AMCATS ultimately fell to the Falcons in set one 25-18.

Trailing 1-0 the AMCATS fought hard in set two after getting off to a slow start. Anna Maria would battle back from an early first set deficit ultimately taking the lead over the Falcons. This set would see intense back and forth action that would ultimately force the game to extend past the 25 point mark before the set would have a winner. The AMCATS would continue the pressure and pull away from the Falcons in the second set scoring two straight points against the Falcons to win the set. The second set would end with the AMCATS winning 26-24 as they tied the match up at one set a piece.

The Falcons would retake the lead in the third set after going point for point with the AMCATS. Tied up 21-21, the AMCATS would continue to stay on the Falcons heels, even winding down with just points away from ending the game the AMCATS would continue to battle with the Falcons but ultimately it would be the Falcons to score two straight points against the AMCATS to end the third set, with the Falcons winning set three 25-23. 

The fourth set would see nonstop action as both teams would go point for point. Ultimately it would be the Falcons to push away from the AMCATS at the end of the set with the score being 19-20 in favor of the Falcons it would then be the Falcons to get five straight points and win the set 25 to 20. The AMCATS would unfortunately fall to the Falcons 25-20, giving Albertus a 3-1 win over the AMCATS. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Vanessa Guimaraes would lead the AMCATS with 10 kills and 14 digs against the Falcons.
  • Gia Hall would lead the AMCATS with 27 assists against the Falcons. 
  • Vanessa Guimaraes leads the team so far this season with 52 kills and 62 digs.
  • Gia Hall leads the AMCATS with assists with 128 so far this season. The next closest has just 13.

COMING UP:

The AMCATS will be back in action on Wednesday September 24, 2025, where they will travel to North Adams, MA to take on the Trailblazers of MCLA for a MASCAC matchup. Opening set starts at 6:00pm.
