Women’s Volleyball Takes Down Lesley

LEXINGTON, MA - The Anna Maria College women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Lesley University in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Minuteman High School. Set scores were 22-25, 25-18, 25-17, and 25-13.

With the win, the AMCATS snapped a 16-match losing streak, improving to 4-18 overall while remaining 0-7 in MASCAC play.

After dropping a competitive opening set, Anna Maria came out strong in the second, jumping to a 4-1 lead behind kills from Ella Moon and Lauren Decoteau, along with a pair of service aces from Rilie Mendoza. Mendoza added two more kills later in the set as the AMCATS extended their advantage to 18-9, with a Lynx attack error sealing the set to even the match at 1-1.

The AMCATS carried that momentum into the third set, racing out to a commanding 12-2 lead fueled by service aces from Makenna Lovelette and Moon, and kills from Decoteau and Vanessa Guimaraes, forcing a Lesley timeout. The Lynx attempted a comeback, but late kills from Mendoza and Guimaraes secured the set for Anna Maria.

The fourth set stayed close early before the AMCATS created separation with a 10-6 lead, then finished strong on a 15-7 run to close out the match.

Anna Maria totaled 42 kills as a team, led by Guimaraes with 13 and Decoteau with 12. Guimaraes also led the defense with 14 digs, while Mendoza filled the stat sheet with six kills, eight digs, and four aces. Gia Hall paced the offense with 23 assists.

The AMCATS return home on Tuesday, November 4th, to host Rhode Island College in their penultimate match of the season, beginning at 6 p.m.
