Women’s Volleyball Swept by Westfield and Fisher in Tri-Match

PAXTON, MA - Anna Maria College was bested in both games of a tri-match on Saturday at the Fuller Center. The AMCATS lost 3-0 to Westfield and 3-1 to Fisher, dropping their overall record to 3-10 while remaining 0-3 in MASCAC competition.

GAME ONE: Westfield 3, Anna Maria 0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-13)

Anna Maria fought hard against the Owls, combining for 21 kills as a team, led by Lauren Decoteau with six kills on a .417 kill percentage, while adding four digs and a service ace. Vanessa Guimares was impactful with eight digs, five kills, and an ace, while Rilie Mendoza added six digs and five kills. Ella Moon rounded out the offense with three kills and six digs while Gia Hall acted as the facilitator with 15 assists, adding a pair of kills.

GAME TWO: Fisher 3, Anna Maria 1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-9, 25-13)

After dropping a close first set, the AMCATS edged out the Falcons in the second, taking an early 7-2 lead off a five-point run highlighted by back-to-back service aces by Mendoza. From there, Anna Maria controlled the set, forcing Fisher to call a timeout after extending to a 20-11 advantage. Ultimately, a service error by Fisher closed out the set and evened the match at 1-1. Unfortunately for the AMCATS, the visitors controlled the fourth and final set to close out the match and secure the win.

Guimares and Decoteau continued to pace the Anna Maria offense, finishing with nine and eight kills, respectively. Guimares added a team-high 11 digs and a service ace, while Decoteau added five digs. Hall continued to set up her teammates, finishing with 17 assists and nine digs, while contributing an impressive four service aces. Ella Moon finished with six kills and six digs throughout the match.

Anna Maria returns to action on Tuesday, October 7th, for a road game against New England College beginning at 6 p.m.
