Monks Silence AMCATS 8-0

PAXTON, Mass. (10.1.2011) – Doe Leckie (Naples, Maine) scored a hat trick and Elizabeth Calnan (Westport, Mass.) came off the bench and scored twice as the Monks from Saint Joseph's (ME) defeated Anna Maria College 8-0 today in Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's soccer action at Paxton's Klingle field.

With the win the Monks improve to 5-2-2 (4-1-2 GNAC) and the AMCATS remain winless at 0-12 (0-7 GNAC).

Along with Leckie and Calnan, Katherine Chambers (Hampden, Maine), and Ashley Beaulieu (Durham, Maine) each scored once and Jennifer Keaney (Scituate, Mass.) added a goal and an assist.

Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.) once again backboned the AMCAT defense making 22 saves on the day. The Monks delivered 51 shots, with 30 shots on net.

Despite outshooting the AMCATS 24-0 in the first half the Monks only built a two goal lead, getting scores from Katherine Chambers on a breakaway down the left wing and Leckie's first goal of the game was an outstanding chip shot over the AMC goalie.

The Monks put heave pressure on the AMCAT defenders in the second half, breaking the game wide open. Off an offensive free kick Keaney made it 3-0 when she scored unassisted at the 53^rdminute mark.

The Monks then had three scores over the next seven minutes_. Doe Leckie picked up her second with a nice dodge around the AMC defender and Lizzy Calnan tallied her first of the game at the 71^st minute. Leckie finished her hat trick with an unassisted goal in the 77^th minute.

The AMCATS return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Emerson for a 5:30 pm tilt.
