Women’s Basketball Bested by Regis in Home Opener

PAXTON, MA - The Anna Maria College women's basketball team fell 70-55 to Regis College in non-conference play on Wednesday evening at the Fuller Activities Center.

With the loss, the AMCATS move to 0-3 on the season.

After falling behind 15-6 late in the first quarter, Anna Maria responded with a five-point run, highlighted by an and-one layup from Briana Franklin to close the gap to 15-11 heading into the second.

The AMCATS found a spark midway through the second quarter when Kimani Wilburn grabbed an offensive rebound that led to a clutch three-pointer from Tiffany Salazar, snapping a scoring drought. However, Regis regained momentum and took a 35-21 lead into halftime.

The Pride extended their advantage in the third quarter before Anna Maria battled back in the fourth, outscoring Regis 22-14. Natalie Nguyen provided a key spark off the bench, going 2-for-2 from the field, while adding four points and a steal in the final frame. Despite the late push, the AMCATS were unable to close the deficit.

The AMCATS spread the ball around with 10 different players scoring throughout the contest. Meaghan Doyle led the way with nine points, six rebounds, and two steals. Hannah Baxter added seven off the bench while Nguyen, Franklin, and Salazar all had six.

Anna Maria continues the season with a home game against Purchase on Wednesday, November 19th, beginning at 6 p.m.
