Women’s Basketball Soars Past Falcons

PAXTON, MA - Anna Maria College dominated Fitchburg State University, defeating the Falcons 70-49 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Wednesday evening at the Fuller Activities Center.

With the win, the AMCATS snapped a three-game losing streak, improving to 5-9 overall and earning their first MASCAC victory, moving to 1-3 in conference play.

Anna Maria took control from the opening tip, posting its highest-scoring first half of the season with 38 points. Meaghan Doyle fueled the offense early, scoring 16 first-half points, while Tiffany Salazar added eight. Sarah O'Connor played a key role on both ends, pulling down nine rebounds and dishing out four assists in the opening half.

After being outscored 23-16 in the third quarter, the AMCATS reasserted themselves in the fourth behind Arianna Gonzalez. Gonzalez went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc in the final quarter, scoring nine of Anna Maria's 16 points to keep the Falcons at bay.

Gonzalez finished 6-for-11 from the field with a team-high 19 points, adding seven rebounds, six assists, three steals, and a block. Doyle followed with 16 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, and two steals, while Salazar chipped in 11 points and four assists.

Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday, January 24th, in a road game against Worcester State University beginning at noon.
