Women’s Basketball Bested by Blue Jays

WEST HARTFORD, CT - Anna Maria was defeated 71-54 by the University of Saint Joseph in a non-conference collegiate women's basketball game on Monday evening at the James A. Calhoun Gymnasium.

With the loss, the AMCATS drop to an overall record of 2-5 before entering MASCAC play.

The AMCATS struggled out of the gate, scoring seven points in the first quarter and finishing the half with 15. After the break, Saint Joseph continued to control the game, widening the margin in the third quarter.

Anna Maria's best stretch came in the fourth, where the offense finally clicked. The AMCATS put up 23 points in the final quarter, outscoring the Blue Jays 23-22 while shooting 44.4 percent from the field, including 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Overall, the AMCATS held advantages in several statistical categories, including points off turnovers (20-18), second-chance points (11-8), fast-break points (11-9), and bench scoring (12-9).

Tiffany Salazar led her squad with 11 points, while Sarah O'Connor and Arianna Saladini each added 10. O'Connor pulled down nine rebounds and collected three steals, and Saladini grabbed four rebounds. Arianna Gonzalez finished with five points, three assists, and two steals, and Bri Franklin added eight points off the bench.

Anna Maria returns to action on Wednesday, December 10, for a home game against Mitchell College beginning at 6 p.m.
