Women’s Basketball’s Fourth Quarter Comeback Attempt Falls Short

SALEM, MA - Anna Maria College fell just short of a fourth-quarter comeback, falling 71-67 to Salem State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Wednesday evening at Twohig Gymnasium.

With the result, the AMCATS opened conference play at 0-1 and moved to 4-7 overall.

After being outscored in each of the first three quarters, Anna Maria entered the final period trailing 51-38. Sarah O'Connor and Tiffany Salazar combined for 16 points and three three-pointers in the fourth quarter to spark the comeback effort. Bri Franklin knocked down a pair of threes as well, finishing with 11 points in the period, as the AMCATS outscored the Vikings 29-20. However, time ran out with Anna Maria four points shy of completing the rally.

Franklin led the AMCATS with 19 points, shooting 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Salazar finished with 15 points—her second-highest total of the season—while adding four assists and two steals. Arianna Gonzalez and O'Connor each scored nine points, with O'Connor also pulling down a game-high 19 rebounds.

Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday, January 10, continuing MASCAC play with a home matchup against MCLA. Tip-off is set for noon.
