MEADE STRIKES OUT 10 AND HICKS WALKS IT OFF FOR CONFERENCE SWEEP OVER BLAZERS
PAXTON MA: On Thursday April 10th, 2025, the Anna Maria College Softball team hosted the Blazers of Elms College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The AMCATS would sweep the Blazers in both games, first game 8-0 and the second game 5 to 4.
Game One:
The AMCATS would start the scoring early against the Blazers as they would capitalize on their offensive momentum from the plate. Kiki Hicks would single down the right field line, to score Ella Moon for the first run of the game, with the AMCATS taking the lead 1 to 0 on the Blazers. The AMCATS would continue to control game one against the Blazers scoring their second run off mistakes from the Elms defense, and the AMCATS would continue to power the offense and score runs against the Blazers. The AMCATS would roll through the offense from the plate, hitting sacrifice fly balls, capitalizing on the Blazers mistakes and hitting two singles down the line to power the AMCATS to victory over the Blazers in game one. The AMCATS would be strong defensively against the Blazers in game one, not allowing a single run-in game one against the Blazers, with the score of 8 to 0.
AMCATS pitcher Lauryn Meade would be flawless in game one for the AMCATS against the Blazers. Meade would have 10 strike outs, 3 walks, and 2 hits in 5 innings pitched in the win for the AMCATS.
Game Two:
The AMCATS would look to come out strong in game two against the Blazers, looking for their first conference sweep of the season. The Blazers would come out quick in the first inning scoring two runs on the AMCAST to get an early lead of 2 to 0 over the AMCATS in game two. The AMCATS would be quick to get those runs back against the Blazers. The rally for the AMCATS would start off a solo home run for the AMCATS off the bat of Ella Moon, for her first homerun for the AMCATS this season. That would cut the Blazers lead to one run with the score of 2 to 1 at the end of the third inning. The AMCATS would shut the Blazers down in the fourth inning and it would be the AMCATS to bring the offense at the plate in the fourth inning, to take the lead over the Blazers, off a Gabby Vasquez single that would score Trinity Kehoe to tie the game against the Blazers. Ella Moon would continue to dominate at the plate for the AMCATS as Moon would go on to hit a double into center field scoring two runs for the AMCATS, to take the lead over the Blazers 4 to 2.
Both teams defense would keep the score locked at 4 to 2, until the Blazers would break through continuing to fight against the AMCATS, managing to score two runs in the top of the seventh, to tie the game. The Blazers were able to shut the AMATS down in the bottom of the seventh inning to keep the game tied 4 to 4 and head into extra innings. The AMCATS would shut down the Blazers in the top of the eighth inning, defensively not allowing them to score a run. The AMCATS would get to work in the bottom of the inning, with the chance to pull out the come from behind win. Lauryn Meade would lay down a perfect bunt up the line, to move the Madison Levesque to third base. It would then be Kiki Hicks to continue her strong day against the Blazers to sail the ball deep into left field, where the Blazers left fielder would catch it and throw it in to home plate, but Levesque would beat the throw and the AMCATS would complete the walk off come from behind win against the Blazers in game two with a score of 5 to 4.
Makenna Lovelette would have a strong outing in game two against the Blazers, striking out five, walking two, giving up two hits, and two runs (one earned run) in 5 innings pitched. Lauryn Meade would come in and finish the game, striking out three, walking one, giving up two hits and two runs getting credit for the win in game two against the Blazers.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Ella Moon would get her first NCAA career homerun against the Blazers.
- Ella Moon would lead the AMCATS with 3 RBIs in the second game win against the Blazers.
- Lauryn Meade would get 10 strikeouts in game one, for the most strikeouts in a game this season for Meade.
- Ella Moon and Kiki Hicks would both have doubles in game two for the AMCATS.
- Kiki Hicks would lead the AMCATS in game one with 4 RBIs
- This would mark the AMCATS first walk-off extra inning win of the season.
- This would be the AMCATS first GNAC conference sweep of the season.
