AMCATS FALL TO MISERICORDIA IN FIVE
MELBOURNE, FLA. – The Anna Maria College softball team opened its second day of doubleheader action against the Cougars of Misericordia University on Tuesday morning. The AMCATS fell to the Cougars, 8-0, in five innings.
Misericordia came out strong, scoring three runs in the first inning. Anna Maria worked to limit further damage, but the Cougars extended their lead to 5-0 by the end of the second.
Angela Marie Gilmartin looked to spark momentum for the AMCATS, reaching first base on an error. Madisyn Crossman followed with a walk, moving Gilmartin into scoring position. However, Anna Maria was unable to capitalize, leaving two runners on base.
Trailing 8-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Gilmartin delivered again for the AMCATS, sending a ball over the center fielder's head for a triple. Ava Alvarado followed with a single to reach base. Alvarado advanced to third on a ground ball from Emelia Carvalho and later stole third, but Anna Maria was unable to bring a run across.
The AMCATS continued to battle, but the Cougars secured the 8-0 victory in five innings.
