Softball Sweeps Colby-Sawyer in Non-Conference Doubleheader

RINDGE, N.H. - Anna Maria College defeated Colby-Sawyer College in both games of a non-conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday evening at Melissa Bisaccia Field.

With the wins, the AMCATS even their season record at 5-5.

GAME ONE: Anna Maria 9, Colby-Sawyer 0 - 5 Innings

Anna Maria took control early, scoring three runs in the opening inning, starting when Mae McGowan and Madisyn Crossman were hit by back-to-back pitches with the bases loaded to establish a 2-0 lead.

Angela Marie Gilmartin hit a sacrifice fly to drive in another run in the third. The AMCATS capitalized on several errors by the Chargers, extending the lead to 8-0 by the end of the inning.

Crossman added another RBI with a groundout in the fourth to give the game its final score of 9-0, as the contest ended after five innings due to the run rule.

Makenna Lovelette pitched a complete game in the circle, finishing with seven strikeouts while allowing just three hits and no earned runs.

GAME TWO: Anna Maria 16, Colby-Sawyer 6 - 5 Innings

Anna Maria's offense stayed hot in game two, erupting for four runs in the first inning behind three hits and two errors, followed by an eight-run second inning fueled by seven hits and two more errors.

The AMCATS added three more runs in the third and one in the fourth before closing out the game in the fifth due to the run rule.

Ella Moon led the way, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a triple. Gilmartin followed with a 3-for-3 performance, driving in five runs while scoring twice, drawing a walk, and recording a triple.

Crossman went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Paige Stewart added a hit, scored three times, and drew two walks.

Mackenzie Evers earned the win in the circle, striking out seven while allowing no earned runs.

Anna Maria returns to action on Thursday, March 19th, in a road doubleheader at Elms College beginning at 3 p.m.
