Paxton, Mass. — The Anna Maria College softball team took on the Buccaneers of Mass. Maritime in a double header conference matchup.
Game One
The AMCATS dropped game one of a doubleheader against Mass. Maritime, falling short despite a competitive effort on both sides of the ball.
Anna Maria recorded five hits in the contest, led by Madisyn Crossman's perfect 2-for-2 performance at the plate. Crossman also scored the team's lone run, providing an offensive spark. Mae McGowan added an RBI in her 1-for-3 outing, driving in the AMCATS' only run of the game.
Meaghan Doyle and Emelia Carvalho each chipped in with a hit, helping Anna Maria create opportunities throughout the lineup. The AMCATS also showed discipline at the plate, drawing a walk while limiting strikeouts.
On the basepaths, McGowan and Ava Alvarado each swiped a bag, applying pressure to the defense in an effort to generate scoring chances.
In the circle, Makenna Lovelette battled throughout, keeping Anna Maria within striking distance and giving the AMCATS a chance to compete deep into the game.
Game Two
The Anna Maria College softball team closed out its doubleheader against Mass. Maritime in thrilling fashion, using a barrage of home runs to secure a dominant Game Two victory.
The AMCATS offense erupted behind a trio of big swings from Meaghan Doyle, Mae McGowan, and Makenna Lovelette, each leaving the yard in a statement performance at the plate. Doyle delivered the biggest blow of the day, going 2-for-4 with a game-high three RBIs, including a towering home run that helped swing the momentum firmly in the AMCATS' favor.
Mae McGowan crushed a home run of her own, driving in key runs and continuing to anchor the middle of the lineup with authority. Lovelette added to the home run parade, launching one over the fence to cap off a relentless offensive attack that kept the Buccaneers on their heels all game long.
With power coming from all parts of the lineup, the AMCATS turned the game into a showcase of offensive firepower. Ella Moon and Paige Stewart kept the pressure on at the top of the order, each crossing the plate twice as Anna Maria piled on runs and never looked back.
In the circle, Makenna Lovelette also impressed, delivering a steady performance to keep Mass. Maritime's offense in check. She worked through traffic and limited big innings, giving the AMCATS the stability they needed while the bats took over.
Backed by clutch hitting, explosive power, and a complete team effort, the AMCATS closed out the doubleheader in style—leaving no doubt and sending a message with every swing.
The AMCATS return to action on Tuesday, April 7, as they host the Trailblazers of MCLA for a conference doubleheader matchup. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
