SOFTBALL SHUTS OUT COUGARS 8-0
The Anna Maria College softball team returned to action for their second game of the day against the Cougars of Concordia College, earning a dominant 8-0 victory.
The AMCATS got on base quickly with back-to-back singles from Paige Stewart and Meaghan Doyle. Angela Marie Gilmartin put Anna Maria on the board with a single up the middle that brought Stewart home.
Anna Maria added another run in the second inning when Mae McGowan singled and later came around to score on a passed ball. The AMCATS found the scoreboard again in the fourth inning as Emelia Carvalho crossed the plate on a groundout to third base.
The AMCATS broke things open in the sixth inning, adding three more runs. Ella Moon started the inning with a triple down the right field line and was brought home by a Paige Stewart single to shortstop. Stewart later scored on the second triple of the inning off the bat of Meaghan Doyle, who sent the ball into right-center field. Doyle would eventually score on a passed ball, giving Anna Maria a 6-0 advantage.
The seventh inning continued the momentum for the AMCATS. Madisyn Crossman reached first after being hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a bunt and a groundout. Emma Blake entered as a pinch runner and scored when Emelia Carvalho singled up the middle. Carvalho moved into scoring position with a stolen base and later scored on a defensive error to cap off the 8-0 win.
Makenna Lovelette was strong in the circle for Anna Maria, allowing just four hits over seven scoreless innings.
WHAT'S NEXT
The AMCATS return to action on Thursday, March 5, 2026, continuing their Florida trip with matchups against Houghton in game one and Rose-Hulman in game two. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 10:00 AM.
