SOFTBALL CLOSES OUT SEASON WITH DOUBLEHEADER LOSS TO BEARS
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — The Anna Maria College softball team wrapped up its 2026 campaign on the road, dropping both games of a conference doubleheader to the Bridgewater State Bears.
GAME ONE: Bridgewater State 9, Anna Maria 4
In game one, the AMCATS came out swinging and struck first in the opening inning. Meaghan Doyle highlighted the frame with a two-run home run to left field, driving in Mae McGowan to give Anna Maria an early 2-0 advantage.
McGowan continued to produce at the plate, finishing with a hit and a run scored, while Doyle added a second hit and totaled two RBI in a strong offensive showing. Madison Levesque also contributed with a multi-hit performance and an RBI, and Angela Marie Gilmartin chipped in with a run driven in to round out the AMCATS scoring.
In the circle, Makenna Lovelette went the distance, tossing six innings while working through traffic and recording a strikeout against a tough Bears lineup.
The AMCATS totaled four runs on six hits in the contest, continuing to apply pressure offensively throughout the game.
Game Two: Bridgewater State 5, Anna Maria 0
Despite the final score, the AMCATS showed resilience defensively, highlighted by a complete-game effort in the circle from Mackenzie Evers. The junior worked all six innings, allowing five earned runs while battling through traffic and keeping Anna Maria within striking distance early.
At the plate, the AMCATS looked to generate momentum but was limited to just a pair of baserunners. Ella Moon and Paige Stewart each drew walks to account for the AMCATS offensive chances, with Stewart also handling duties behind the plate.
Defensively, the AMCATS turned in a clean effort with no errors in the field. Evers was supported by solid play across the diamond, including contributions from Mae McGowan and Meaghan Doyle in the infield.
Bridgewater State broke through in the middle innings, using timely hitting to build its lead, including a home run in the fifth inning to extend the advantage.
Anna Maria continued to compete through the final frame, with Evers recording key outs to limit further damage and close out the contest.
The loss caps the 2026 campaign for the AMCATS, who showed determination and growth throughout the season.
