SOFTBALL COMES UP SHORT AGAINST MONKS
PAXTON, MA- On Saturday April 19th, 2025 the Anna Maria College softball team would travel to Maine to host Saint Joseph's College (ME) for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The AMCATS lost both games 5-4 and 6-2.
Game One: . The AMCATS and the Pilgrims in game one would be a battle all game, from offense in the beginning of the game, to defending the field at the end of the game. Both teams would trade opportunities, as the AMCATS would start off strong brining the offense in the first inning scoring four runs, to lead the Monks 4 to 0 in the bottom of the first inning. The Monks would be quick to respond on offense, as they would put up three runs, to only be trailing by one run at the end of the first inning. There was an entire game left to play but it would be a pitcher's duel for the rest of the game, to determine the winner. Both teams would be left scoreless after the first inning, until the bottom of the sixth inning where the Monks would get the tying run on the AMCATS. The AMCATS would have an opportunity in the seventh inning off a hit by pitch, with no outs to put Katelyn Melvin on the bases but the Monks defense were able to get out of it. The AMCATS would play strong all game against the Monks making plays in the field and battling strong at the plate. The AMCATS and Monks would battle hit by hit and play by play in the field, but at the end of the seventh inning, the AMCATS and Monks would be tied meaning this game was going to extra innings. In the eighth inning the AMCATS would not be able to generate any offense, to score a run, and the game would head to the bottom of the eighth inning and the Monks would capitalize on walks, from the AMCATS and a sacrifice bunt to score the 5th run in the bottom of the eighth. and Unfortunately for the AMCATS that result meant the Monks would walk the game off and win 5 to 4 in game one.
Madison Ayik would go 4 for 3 at the plate for the AMCATS in game one. Madison Levesque would go 4 for 2 against the Monks in game one. Paige Stewart would lead the AMCATS in game one with 2 RBIs.
Game Two: The AMCATS would look to come out strong in the second game against the Monks in hope to split the series with the Monks. The AMCATS would get on top of the Monks early scoring one run in the first inning. The Monks would battle back against the AMCATS and would take the lead in the third inning scoring two runs to take the lead 2 to 1. The AMCATS were able to fight their way back against the Monks scoring the tying run in the top of the fourth inning. It would then be the Monks to prove their offense scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth and then putting up 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead over the AMCATS 6 to 2. Despite the AMCATS trying to battle back and regain the lead over the Monks, neither team would score another run after the bottom of the fifth inning. The AMCATS would fall to the Monks 6 to 2 in game two.
Beyond The Box Score:
- Madison Levesque would go 3 for 2 in game two against the Monks.
- Kiki Hicks and Madison Levesque would both have one RBI in game two against the Monks.
- The AMCATS would be walked 10 times in game two against the Monks.
- The AMCATS would leave 13 players on base in game two against the Monks.

The AMCATS will be back in action on Monday April 21st, 2025, where they host the Cadets of Norwich University for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball doubleheader matchup. Opening pitch for game one is set for 12:00pm.
