Softball Rallies in Game Two for a Split against the Cadets
PAXTON, MA- On Monday April 21st, 2025, the Anna Maria College softball team would host the Cadets of Norwich University for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The AMCATS would split the series with Cadets losing the first game 11-0 and winning the second game 6 to 3.
Game One:
The Cadets would come out strong in the game against the AMCATS, and the AMCATS would put up their best efforts to try and contain the Cadets only being down 3-0 after the third inning. The AMCATS would continue to put the ball in play, but the Cadets would be able to find the ball on the other side and make the plays in the field to have strong defense against the AMCATS. Despite the AMCATS putting the ball in play, and continuing to try to get the momentum going, it would be the Cadets that would continue to pile on the runs and silence the AMCATS. The AMCATS would get base runners, but just could not get the offensive going to score their runners as the Cadets would continue to shut down the AMCATS offensively. The Cadets would go on to score eight more runs on the AMCATS, making the comeback for the AMCATS to be difficult, and with the strong Cadets defense on the AMCATS, the comeback would not happen as the AMCATS would fall to the Cadets 11 to 0.
Game Two:
It would be both teams that would get one run each, at the end of the first inning, heading to the second inning tied 1-1. The AMCATS would get a run in the bottom of the second inning to lead the Cadets 2 to 1, for their first lead of the game. The third, fourth and fifth innings would be clean defensively for both teams allowing no runs and would be a pitcher's duel on the rubber as the pitching would be flawless through 5 innings. The AMCATS would maintain their 2 to 1 lead heading into the top of the sixth inning. The Cadets were not going away, and would continue to fight against the AMCATS, as they would score 3 runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead over the AMCATS 3 to 2 heading into the bottom of the sixth. The AMCATS would come out aggressive in the bottom of the sixth inning as they would be strong offensively and determined as they would now fight to take the lead back on the Cadets. The AMCATS would do just that as they would regain the lead, capitalizing on the Cadets mistakes, walks and strong at bats at the plate to take the lead on the Cadets 6 to 3, with the Cadets trailing by three heading to the seventh. The AMCATS would play strong defense, and would get a tremendous pitching display from Meade in the bottom of the seventh to secure the comeback win on the Cadets in game two 6 to 3.
Makenna Lovelette would have a strong outing in game two against the Cadets, striking out three allowing eight hits, only giving up three runs (two earned runs) in five innings pitched. Lauryn Meade would come out to the mound in relief for Lovelette and have a tremendous outing striking out three, not allowing a single run or hit in 1.2 innings pitched, to collect the win for the AMCATS in game two.

- Ella Moon and Angela Marie Martin would both double in the second game win against the Cadets.
