SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH LASERS ON THE ROAD

NEWTON, MA– On Friday April 18th, the Anna Maria College softball team traveled to Newton, MA to take on the Lasers of Lasell University for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup.  The AMCATS would split with the Lasers winning the first game 4 to 3 and losing the second game 8 to 3.

 Game One: 

The Lasers would start the day off with a quick lead on the AMCATS in game one, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. The AMCATS and the Lasers would play a close game, each playing strong defense through the second, third and fourth innings neither team allowing a single run. The AMCATS bats would come alive in the top of the fifth inning scoring two runs to take the lead on the Lasers, off a single to left field from Paige Stewart to score Trinity Kehoe to take the 2 to 1 lead over the Lasers in the top of the fifth. The Lasers would continue to fight against the AMCATS going run for run, as they would go on to score the tying run against the AMCATS. The game would be all notched up 2 to 2 heading to the 6th inning in the game where the Lasers would keep the AMCAST off the board but would take the lead over the AMCATS scoring their 3rd run of the game to lead the AMCATS heading into the top of the 7th inning 3 to 2. It would be the AMCAST to find the offense at the plate and capitalize on the Lasers mistakes in the field to take the lead over the Lasers 4 to 3, scoring two runs in the top of the 7th. The AMCATS would head to the field, in the lead over the Lasers 4 to 3, and would play tremendous defense, in the field in the bottom of the 7th and would not allow the Lasers to score a single run in the seventh. The strong offense, and flawless defense in the field in thee seventh inning would secure the win 4 to 3 for the AMCATS in game one over the Lasers. 

Game Two: 

The Lasers would start the scoring off early in game two against the AMCATS putting up the first run of the game in the first inning. The AMCATS would quickly respond to the Lasers run, getting their first run of the game off a hit from Mae McGowan single to right field to score Madison Levesque to tie the game. The AMCATS would continue with the hitting the ball and creating offense at the plate in the top of the second inning  but would strand base runners, as the Lasers were able to get out of the inning with just one run.  The Lasers would be quick to regain that one run lead on the AMCATS as they scored their second run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. The AMCATS would look to tie the Lasers in the top of the third inning but would not find any runs on the scoreboard. It would be the bottom of the third inning that the Lasers would find their bats against the AMCATS and score five runs, to take the lead over the AMCATS 7 to 1. The AMCATS would manage to score three more runs in the game, two in the fifth inning and one in the sixth inning to get three runs on the scoreboard. But it would be the Lasers to score another run on the AMCATS before the game would end to increase their lead 8 to 3, leading the AMCATS by 5 runs.  The AMCATS would ultimately fall to the Lasers 8 to 3.

What's Next: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday April 19th, 2025, where they will travel to Maine to take on Saint Joseph's College of Maine Monks for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. Opening pitch is set for 12:00pm
