WOMEN'S HOCKEY FALLS IN SEASON OPENER To No.10 GOLDEN FLYERS

WORCESTER, MA– On Saturday November 1, 2025, the Anna Maria College women's hockey team hosted the Golden Flyers of Nazareth University for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS would lose the game 5 to 1. 

The AMCATS and Golden Flyers went back and forth throughout the first period, each creating quality scoring opportunities. The AMCATS struck first when Mia Provenzo capitalized on a blocked shot, skating the puck to the net and burying the first goal of the game about eight minutes into the period to give Anna Maria a 1–0 lead.

Both teams continued to trade chances as the period went on, but the AMCATS defense held strong, keeping the Golden Flyers off the board. The AMCATS headed to the locker room with a 1–0 advantage over the Golden Flyers after the first period 

The AMCATS looked to come out strong in the second period, creating several offensive opportunities in hopes of adding to their lead. However, momentum quickly shifted in favor of the Golden Flyers, who capitalized on two power-play goals less than a minute apart to take the lead.

Goaltender Megan Tegethoff and the AMCATS defense held strong for the remainder of the second period, keeping Nazareth off the board and sending the teams to the locker room with the Golden Flyers leading 2–1.

Nazareth carried their momentum into the third period, pulling away from the AMCATS with three additional goals to extend their lead to 5–1. Despite their efforts, the AMCATS were unable to generate offense in the final frame, falling to the Golden Flyers by a final score of 5–1.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• Mia Provenzo would score her first career goal as an AMCAT against the Golden Flyers.
• Megan Tegethoff would stop 38 shots against the Golden Flyers.

COMING UP:

The AMCATS will be back in action on Friday November 7, 2025, where they will host the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College for a non-conference matchup at Buffone Arena Worcester, MA. Opening face-off is set for 4:40pm.
