Women's Hockey Falls To Spartans In Opening Round Of Bagley Invitational
RUTLAND VT- On Friday January 2, 2026, the Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team traveled to Rutland VT for The Bagley Invitational Tournament to take on the Spartans of Vermont State Castleton. The AMCATS would lose to the Spartans 1-0.
The Spartans struck early, scoring about seven minutes into the first period. The AMCATS struggled to generate offense as the period went on, while the Spartans controlled much of the momentum and created several scoring chances. Despite the pressure, AMCATS goaltender Emma Brewer delivered a strong performance in net, limiting the Spartans to just one goal in the first period.
Looking to shift the momentum, the AMCATS came out stronger defensively in the second period. Brewer continued to shine in net, turning aside every Spartan attempt and keeping them off the scoreboard. However, despite improved play and a few offensive chances, the AMCATS were unable to score on the Spartans goalie. The second period ended with the Spartans holding a narrow 1–0 lead.
In the third period, the AMCATS gave a full effort, generating as many offensive opportunities as possible in search of the equalizer. Once again, the Spartans' goalie would keep the AMCATS off the scoreboard. With about three minutes remaining, the AMCATS would pull their goalie to gain an extra attacker and push offensively. Despite the late surge and another strong performance from Brewer, the AMCATS were unable to find the back of the net and ultimately fell to the Spartans by a final score of 1–0.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Emma Brewer would stop 36 shots against the Spartans.
