WORCESTER, Mass. - Anna Maria College dropped a 3-2 decision to Salve Regina University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's ice hockey game on Tuesday evening at Buffone Skating Arena.
With the loss, the AMCATS fall to 4-13-12 overall while remaining 2-5-2 in MASCAC play.
Anna Maria trailed for just 24 seconds in the opening period. After the Seahawks opened the scoring with 3:38 remaining, Mia Provenzo answered quickly, netting an unassisted goal to even the game at 1-1 with 3:14 left in the period.
Salve Regina regained the lead in the second period and added an insurance goal early in the third to make it 3-1. The AMCATS pushed back late, as Provenzo scored her second goal of the night with assists from Camryn Beauvis and Alexandra Peterson with just under two minutes remaining to pull Anna Maria within one. Despite the late surge and an extra attacker due to an empty net in the final moments, Salve Regina held on to secure the victory.
Megan Tegethoff played the entire game in goal for the AMCATS, stopping 33 shots on the night.
Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday, February 7th, with a road contest against MASCAC opponent Salem State University.
