Women’s Ice Hockey Wins Shootout Against Salem

WORCESTER, MA - Anna Maria College skated to a 1-1 draw with Salem State University on Friday night at the Buffone Skating Arena, but the AMCATS walked away with an extra boost after winning the best-of-three shootout on the final attempt.

The shootout victory, sealed by Tessa Henry on the deciding shot, will officially go down as a draw in the record book, but could prove valuable later in the season should tiebreakers come into play for MASCAC seeding.

With the draw, Anna Maria moves to 1-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.

After letting up a first-period goal and a scoreless second, the AMCATS entered the final period still trailing 1-0. Quinn Bennet delivered the equalizer with just under four minutes remaining, converting off assists from Alexandra Petersen and Jada Kosowan to tie the game and force overtime.

Goaltender Emma Brewer played the entire game in goal for the AMCATS, turning aside 43 of 44 shots (.977) to keep Anna Maria within striking distance all night.

Anna Maria is right back on home ice Saturday, November 22, hosting Rivier University for a 7:20 p.m. puck drop.
