Third Period Surge Leads To 5-3 Win Over Corsairs

NEW BEDFORD, MA - On Thursday, February 13th the Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team traveled to New Bedford, MA to take on the Corsairs of Umass-Dartmouth for a MASCAC conference matchup. The AMCATS won the game 5-3.

The AMCATS got off to a slow start after giving up two goals in the first period of the game. Followed by an early second period goal from the Corsairs making it 3-0 just under a minute into the second period. It wasn't until six minutes later that Samson Mouland broke the ice for the AMCATS scoring off a play from Brandon Della Paolera and Patrick Crooks. The second period would end with the AMCATS still trailing 3-1.

Exploding in the third period, the AMCATS got to work right away scoring back to back goals within the first six minutes of the period. The first goal came from Max Wennerberg off a pass from Matthew Gilbert and Spencer Carpenter. Derek Raposo notched the game tying goal for the AMCATS with help from Carpenter making it 3-3 just six minutes into the third period. Almost ten minutes later it was Dylan McElhinny who scored the game winning goal for the AMCATS with help from Gilbert and Nicholas Fredricks. Fredricks would go on to score an insurance goal for the AMCATS with two minutes left in the third period making it 5-3. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • After defeating the Corsairs, the AMCATS recorded their 16th win marking the most wins in a single season in the programs history.
  • Mathew Gilbert has recorded 6 assists in the last two games played.
  • With 3 points against the Corasirs, Matthew Gilbert became the teams points leader with 28 so far this season.

COMING UP:

The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday, February 15th where they will host the Falcons of Fitchburg State University for Senior Day. Opening puck drop is set for 4:40pm at the Horgan Arena in Auburn, MA.
