WESTFIELD, Mass. - Anna Maria College earned its seventh straight victory, defeating Westfield State University 5-3 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's ice hockey game on Saturday night at Amelia Park Arena.
With the win, the AMCATS improve to 15-5-2 overall and 9-1-1 in conference play.
Adam Redding opened the scoring early in the first period, finishing passes from Liam Wells and Lucas de la Salle to give Anna Maria a 1-0 lead.
Westfield responded with two goals to take a 2-1 advantage just over nine minutes into the second period. Braeden McKinnon evened the score midway through the frame off an assist from Wells. After Westfield regained a one-goal edge, Liam Murdoch tied the game at 3-3 late in the second period.
Anna Maria seized control before the intermission as McKinnon netted his second goal of the night, assisted by Dylan McElhinny. Max Wennerberg added the final goal early in the third period, finishing passes from Pearce Baker and Brandon Della Paolera to make it 5-3.
Matthew Hennessey played the entire game in net for the AMCATS, making 43 saves and posting a .935 save percentage to secure the win.
Anna Maria returns to action Saturday, February 14, hosting conference rival Fitchburg State University at 7:40 p.m.
